Why You Should Consider Drain Tile Installation

Here at ULB-Dry Waterproofing, we know that few things are more annoying than a basement flood. They’re annoying to clean up, and if left to linger for too long they can cause tremendous damage. We’re talking about mold growth, foundation damage, and other expensive problems.

ulb-drain-tileThat’s why it pays to have our basement waterproofing experts on your side. We have many ways of making your basement more resistant to the elements. One way we can help is by installing a drain tile. If you’ve never looked into drain tile installation before, there are a few things that you should know. First, let’s learn about the two types of drain tile installation.

Types of Drain Tile Installation

Interior

This is when we install the drain tile inside. We’ll break up part of the floor near the wall of your basement and build a trench. We attach said trench to a sump pump basin so that it can drain out any water that enters your home. We place a small bed of gravel right underneath the drain tile hole and fill in the trench we’ve built, making sure that any water will make its way out of your basement and back outdoors. We also ensure that our drain tiles are never an eyesore. Our work will blend right in with the rest of your basement.

Exterior

In some cases, we’ll install a drain tile outdoors. We check for utility lines and then build a trench that slopes towards an existing pump. We install PVC tile and other equipment, along with a dimpled drainage mat that can be secured to your foundation. This can help lead the water away and prevent some costly damage. We then fill in this trench with the existing soil and properly dispose of any excess.

Benefits of Drain Tile Installation

Whether you have an interior or exterior drain tile, it offers a few different benefits.

You’ll Save Money

A drain tile can make a big difference if you’re trying to keep your basement dry. This means that you’ll be able to avoid water damage, which can be incredibly costly. Not only can it ruin your floors or carpeting, but a flood can also damage your foundation over time. This can be a costly fix.

Avoid Mold

A basement flood can also cause the growth of mold, which can be expensive to remove. Basements are already a potential hotspot for mold growth, so don’t let a flood aid in the process. Not only is it expensive to remove, but some types can cause health problems. Even if you don’t have a specific allergy, you don’t want mold growing in your home.

Peace of Mind

If your basement is prone to flooding, you’re probably familiar with the dread that can accompany any storm. You hope and pray that you won’t have to clean up a big mess once Mother Nature is all done. Installing a drain tile and taking a proactive approach to basement waterproofing can give you peace of mind. Wouldn’t it be nice to not worry about the basement flooding this spring?
